Select Program Overview (13U-19U) - Zone 2

The Congaree Rapid FC Select (Travel) program offers a competitive training and match environment for players between the ages of 12 and 19 who meet minimum standards set forth by our Director of Coaching (DOC), Technical Director (TD) and Coaching Staff. As this is the highest level of play that the club offers, players who are willing to commit a significant amount of time and energy to the program are selected through an annual tryout process in late May and placed accordingly. Typically, CRFC fields one team per age group from 13U-19U.

Select teams play in one of three leagues – the Open League, the President’s Medal Soccer League (PMSL) or the Challenge League. These leagues have implemented a promotion and relegation system. Travel throughout much of the state may be required at these levels of play. Due to the geographic locale of our club, however, most of our matches are within a 45-minute drive.

Player development is paramount to the mission of our club. At the Select level, this is accomplished through utilizing a professional staff organized by a Director of Coaching. Our staff’s primary focus is to develop our players in order to reach their maximum individual potential by working within a team structure. The team structure fosters teamwork, leadership, collective problem solving, accountability, and a competitive focus. This is accomplished through the training environment that is created. The DOC and TD carry out the club philosophy by establishing age appropriate curriculums or guidelines and by hiring top quality coaches that will regularly impact the players in the club.

Since our inception in 1993, CRFC’s goal has been to foster a “scholastic-first” mentality when attracting and retaining club coaches. We hope to present club soccer with the intent of developing quality prep players via a framework developed by high school coaches – that recognize the needs of the typical player. Our coaches are required to hold State Level Licenses and many progress to the National Level Licenses. CRFC supports continuing coaching education as evidenced by our club’s inclusion in the United Soccer Coaches Member Club program. CRFC was the first club in the Palmetto State to adopt these standards and the only United Soccer Coaches ELITE Member Club in the state.

CRFC hopes that youth involved in our club will develop into adults who have a deep love of soccer that results in life-long participation in the sport by providing a competitive training and match environment. CRFC seeks to provide this environment to players throughout their club soccer experience so as the mature to adults, they may continue to participate as players, coaches, officials, administrators, fans, and parents of future soccer players!
